5/18 Daiya Cheese
Today we used Daiya Cheddar vegan cheese for the first time. Because it is so new to us, I wanted begin the discussion, try it a few more times and then review it. It has been receiving SO much press that I have to admit, I wanted to taste what all the buzz was about.
We used it on soft tacos with faux ground beef, guacamole and corn salsa. In order to really get a taste for it, we did not melt it, but sprinkled it on top of the taco. The texture is a different than any faux cheese I have ever had, it is powdery. It smelled like a mild cheddar cheese and added a nice flavor to the taco. Wait, this really sounds like a review. This is more of a review-lite because we have only tried it once.
I am very interested to hear your thoughts about Daiya cheese. Here is a link to their site if you want to check them out. The story of how they “made it big” is very exciting. It made me feel like I wanted to root for them whether or not I liked their cheese.
