6/25 Vegan Challenge Begins in 5 days
The 30 day Vegan Challenge begins in five days, on the 30th of June. I am much less concerned than I was in the early planning stages and look forward to following through on something very cool I set out to do.
I have heard from many of you that you are willing to do your own version of the 30 day challenge and I am so glad. Some of you were willing to try almond milk instead of cows milk and some of you were going to try vegan for thirty days along with Sandy and myself. There is no wrong way. We can do this together and have fun along the way. We can try foods we have never had and say good bye to a few favorites, even if only for a month.
I am still mourning the loss of Morningstar faux Bacon and faux Sausage patties. I was almost enraged when I found out that the bacon had some form of dairy in it. I sulked around the house asking no one in particular…”How can this be? How can vegetarian foods be off limits to a vegan?? It doesn’t seem right!” I know better than to make that assumption but honestly, Morningstar Bacon is one of my favorite foods and has been for a long time. We have shared a lot of meals together and it will be missed.
I really believe that we are changing the world one meal at a time. Our small steps are creating great change. In the short amount of time that I have been sharing this blog with you, we have affected change in our own lives and the lives of people we know. That is fantastic and I am excited.
If you have decided to join the thirty day challenge and would like to share, please do so. Every new comment is an inspiration to us all.
Have a great day.

Hi Sherry-
Please try the tofurkey Italian Sausage. It’s not a patty but it works any time of day.
I know, why are there eggwhites in Morningstar products? I have a bbq tofu recipe on my blog right now, if you add some liquid smoke to the recipe you won’t miss the morningstar bacon a bit.

We love all things Tofurkey, but have not yet tried their sausages. Their Jurky is amazing. It makes me want to go hiking and star in a Kashi commercial. We will try your recipe, thank you for the shred of facon bacon lovin hope. I would have never thought of the liquid smoke.

If you slice tempeh nice and thin and marinate in soy sauce, maple syrup, garlic and liquid smoke, you can fry it up for a nice bacon-y substitute!

Thank you so much Jennifer. I have never used liquid smoke and you are the second person to recommend it. We will definitely try this.

Here is GiGi’s recipe for BBQ Tofu from her Veganville blog: http://www.gigi-2boomers.blogspot.com
It sounds amazing and very easy. This is what she recommends instead of the Morningstar Farms Bac’n. Thank you GiGi. You are like the Fairy Godmother of veganism.
BBQ Tofu
1 14oz. organic tofu drained and pressed
2 T pineapple juice
Approximately 1 C Trader Joe’s Bold and Smoky Kansas City Style BBQ (vegan of course!)
1 T brown sugar (optional)
Preheat oven to 400. Spray a 9x 13 glass pan with canola spray. Add BBQ sauce, pineapple juice, and brown sugar if using. Mix with wooden spoon. Cut tofu width wise once, then into 12 sticks lengthwise. Turn the tofu in the BBQ mix and coat each side. Bake 15 minutes on each side.
