7/31 BYO Vegan
Today we are going to a birthday party for a very good friend of ours. She is one of the sassiest, sexiest and kindest women we know. It is a milestone birthday and is going to be a bash with a ton of people. They are roasting a pig, which I really wish were not the case. It is interesting because unless the majority of your friends and family are veg or vegan, you run into situations like this all the time. Social situations that require you to chose whether or not to participate in things that don’t really resonate with you in a positive way. It isn’t like they are killing the pig there. It is there menu, not their manifesto…but I still wish that these friends that I love and care for so much fed their bodies in a more compassionate and healthful way. You can only share how awesome what your eating is. Pointing out how not awesome you think someone else’s taste in food is not the way to create converts.
Sandy and I are doing some not- so- accidental activism. We are bringing our Tofurkey Italian sausages for the grill (no one can resist trying these), her world famous, Vegan Cowgirl Baked Beans (post 6/2) and my vegan dark chocolate, pecan and sea salt cookies (post 7/10). Because we are helping to set up and will be there all day, we are also bringing the most amazing chick’n salad. I will share the recipe next week. You will love it and I know our meatatarian friends will too. Who knows, the next major event we share with them may be a vegan feast. You never know. Changing the world one friend and one meal at a time.
Have a delicious weekend.

did you know that Handsome Man is interested in going the vegan and/or vegetarian path — sometimes. the brats really intrigued him — to the point of saying, ‘those look so good, we should try those sometimes’ and continues to look for them in the local grocery store. Alas, in farming country, it is a bit difficult to find vegan/vegetarian friendly items….
You guys are the greatest….

This makes perfect sense to me. You cant be that handsome and not give a damn about what goes into your body. It wouldn’t make sense. The veg replacements are healthier options of some of the things you love. They are much lower in calories, fat and cholesterol. They are easy to prepare and worth trying. Some you will fall in love with and others you may want to keep working on.
Morningstar Farms http://www.morningstarfarms.com is the most widely available and you will find it in the freezer section of Kroger, Target, Meijer and Walmart. You can also go to the Tofurky website http://www.tofurky.com (the makers of the awesome Italian Sausages we brought to your party) . They have a store locater and it will show you all the stores in your area that sell their products.
Experimenting will be fun and you will be amazed and how fantastic you feel after eating Morningstar Farms BBQ ribs. No guilt lurking anywhere and they taste amazing.
