8/20 Hey, Lets Meet Up

Last night I joined a vegan Meetup. I have never done anything like that, I don’t even have my own cell phone.  I have always held this preconceived notion about Meetup groups. I thought you were required to be single or extroverted or a dazzling conversationalist.

I don’t know what I thought. I am making all of this up because the truth is that I didn’t think they were for me  because it makes me feel scared. It is out of my comfort zone to meet a gaggle of people I have never met, at a restaurant I have never been to, to try food I have never had. I am a much younger, female version of Walter Matthau.  I love change when I have created it….I am adventurous when I have back up and I am most comfortable in a room full of people I already know.

But the thing is….. I am really loving this vegan adventure. I cant wait to meet others that do as well. I want to talk about it and share it and listen to other peoples funny stories about family gatherings, transitions and tofu. This must be why people seek out Meetup groups, because they are a pre-qualified group of new friends that enjoy some of the same things that you do! Amazingly convenient.

Finding a Meetup in your area is ridiculously easy. You type in your interest and where you live. Several will pop up. Because there were so many to choose from, I looked at the site of each one and joined the one that had the most interesting calendar of events. Why not.

I cant wait to tell you about our first vegan Meetup. Based on their calendar, they go to super cool restaurants, have lectures and volunteer on an animal sanctuary called Sasha Farms. Sign me up. Plus, I am ready to leave shy behind in the dust with the dairy. We can all change, we just have to be willing to try.

Have a delicious day.

    Hey my chica,

Sasha Farm is literally 1 mile from our house. How absolutely crazy is that!? I’m loving your adventures and the bit of ‘celebrity’ status you gave the BIG meat eaters bash….

    love you,

I know! Sandy told me yesterday. It felt too good to be true, so I almost didn’t believe her. In September they are having a vegan chili cook off and Autumn party. We are SO going and thinking about entering the cook off. You guys can meet us there and have a love fest vegan style. Keith will fall in love with vegan chili and he will be a convert.

Your party was celebrity status. You were a shining star in the middle of Manchester. I read in TIME magazine that they could see it from space, but only I knew it was you.
