9/25 Drink To Your Health
I believe in signs and cues, an inner feeling, a knowing, a dream that repeats or a topic that comes up randomly in multiple conversations. I strive to listen with more than my ears and act on it when I know how. This openness has not let me down.
Oddly enough, this continues to happen with Apple Cider Vinegar as a health tonic. I knew that people were consuming it for health benefits, but wasn’t exactly sure why. The subject has come up several times this past week alone. All have been completely independent of each other. I am listening.
The other night we were talking to a friend of ours and totally unsolicited he began to tell us that his doctor had given him the 30 day warning to change his life or start consuming a medicine cabinet full of prescription drugs. He needed to manage his cholesterol, high blood pressure and insulin. In the 30 days that followed, our friend began drinking ACV twice a day. When he went for a follow up appointment, his cholesterol, weight and blood pressure had all gone down.
The very next morning we tried to drink 1/8 of a cup of ACV with water and I almost died. It was too brutal to choke down. It did not feel like a sustainable practice and I have not tried it again since.
Yesterday at my chain grocery store, the cashier that was ringing me up scanned my Bragg’s ACV and just randomly shared that she drinks it to control her ulcer. She said she drinks one Tablespoon a day instead of taking over the counter or prescription meds for her stomach ailments and it works beautifully. Serioulsy, I am listening and I am curious.
I have started researching and reading posts from tons of people around the globe that drink ACV for health. Many have recommended adding a sweetener like Agave or Stevia, while Old School enthusiasts tell you to never add sweeteners. I say, whatever helps you get it down.
I wanted to share the excerpt I found from a website called Earth Clinic. They published a book called, Apple Cider Vinegar; A Modern Folk Remedy. I found their list of potential benefits to consuming ACV to be a great synopsis of all the things I have heard and read:
Apple Cider Vinegar is that simple thing. For the body, it’s like grease for the engine or that missing fact that makes everything else fall into place. It is the one thing that makes every other thing perform better, a natural remedy that helps the body work again as the cohesive, efficient, virtually indestructible unit we enjoyed as children. Thousands of reports and centuries of therapeutic use have shown that Apple Cider Vinegar can:
- Improve cardiovascular health by supporting heart functioning and clean, healthy blood vessels.
- Kick-start your metabolism for more and better energy.
- Improve nutritional digestion, nutrient uptake and use.
- Relieve digestive upsets.
- Trigger weight loss and reduce those constant hungry feelings.
- Naturally improve skin tone, clarity, and appearance.
- Reduce or eliminate painful symptoms and conditions.
On the same website you can go to the Apple Cider Vinegar Cure section under Remedies. This is where I read thread after thread of interesting anecdotes about how and why to consume this bitter beverage. There is a recipe for a kind of lemonade elixer that I am gong to try.
We are going to give it a go with the Bragg’s. I will share an update in a few weeks. In the meantime, I look forward to hearing your feedback about Apple Cider Vinegar.
Have a delicious day.

I use apple cider vinegar mixed with cayenne pepper, lemon, and honey added to hot water whenever I get a sore throat, and it really does work! I have a friend who swears by apple cider vinegar as well.

I use it on my hair as a rinse when my frizz gets out of control. I’ll be interested to hear the results of your experiment!

Erin, I have read the same thing. How much vinegar do you usually add? Does the honey make it more palatable? Because of the trip to Toronto we have not yet started to consume it daily. I think I am going to try it with Agave and see if it is easier to ingest.

Jennifer, what a smashing idea. Do you add anything to it or just pour it over your hair?
