10/20 Trick or Treat
We adore Halloween. We decorate the house inside and out, wear costumes every chance we get and discuss a month in advance the candy we will hand out. Sandy picks three candies and I pick three. Mine are always, Take 5, Starburst and Almond Joy. They are my fave. You may or may not know this, but none of those are vegan. They all contain gelatin or milk products. I have been pondering this since that sunny Spring day that I accepted the Vegan Challenge.
So, I have been on the hunt for veganized candy and yummies to indulge in on Halloween. I don’t need candy, it isn’t about the need. I want the candy and I want to participate in a holiday that excites me. I can hardly wait for the sun to go down on Halloween and this one will be no different. To get us started I found this list on Vegan Nutritionista

- Airheads taffy

I also found a website called the Natural Candy Store where you can purchase all natural, vegan Halloween candy. There are options I have never seen or thought of such as Twilight Candy Bars and Whizzers Chocolate Beans.
Yesterday afternoon I purchased Halloween Oreos because I knew they were vegan and they looked so fun that I could not leave the store without them. As I was setting up the studio to shoot the candy photos for this post, I helped myself to a festive Oreo. I twisted the top off like you see in the commercials and scraped off some of the old school creme filling. As I did the same maneuver that thousands of children have done thousands of times before me, I felt my insides giggle. I had tapped into Little Sherry and boy did we enjoy that moment. Halloween is fun and so are vegan sweets. Consume with joy and reckless abandon every once in a while.
Have a delicious day.

Me too! I can not believe that Skittles went gelatin free. I did not know this until now and I am very excited. I have not indulged in Skittles for a decade for this reason, so I welcome them back. Now if only Starburst would get with it, I would be in chewy candy heaven.

Jelly Bellys don’t have any gelatin but sadly they are coated in beeswax, something you may or may not avoid as a vegan. I know Starburst jelly beans are vegan, though.

Thank you for the tip. I love, love Starburst Jelly Beans and they are a tasty stand in for the actual Starburst.
