11/13 The Produce is Here
Yesterday our friend Lisa came over with a large box of produce. She was on her way out of town on business and had just received her Door to Door Organics produce delivery, even though she asked them to defer it to another week. Clearly their mistake would be our gain. Lisa has a service that delivers fresh, mostly local, organic fruits and veggies to her home. Think milk man for organic produce.
We ripped the box open like it was a Christmas present and rifled through it to find gorgeous pears, apples, broccoli rabe and many other treasures. The bounty was fresh and perky like it had just been hand purchased.
I think this service is such an fun idea. If you have more desire than time when it comes to purchasing organic fruits and veggies, why not have someone else pick it out for you and ship it to your front door! It is like a care package for the health conscious cook.
This particular company services five states but there are tons of companies just like this ready to be your produce delivery service. Many of your options are customizable including the size of your box and frequency of delivery. You can put it on hold when you go away or forget and give the entire box to your overjoyed friends.
If you have any experience with a service like this, please share. We would love to hear from you.
Gimme Five
Next week in continuing with the Vegan Mofo (Vegan Month of Food) five out of six posts will be specifically about food. We are going to try something new…to bring you recipes for dishes with only five ingredients (not including salt and pepper). Keep it simple, keep it tasty…keep it vegan homemade. We are going to have fun with this so look forward to some sassy recipes for new delicacies.
Have a delicious weekend.

We also get a weekly Door to Door box. We have done this for three years for the fall and winter months, and I am so thankful this service exists. They have increased their local sources quite a bit over the last year, so that is very promising.

So true, these services are awesome for so many people, and it seems to help keep you on the fresh food – healthy eating path. I don’t buy much from the grocery store anymore, so this is a huge time saver for me during the winter months.
The company that I use is Dobrasevic – it’s a small local family owned operation with a warehouse in Troy. They started in Oakland County, and have now expanded to Macomb and Wayne. I love their slogan – Dirt to Door in 24 (hrs)
They offer two box sizes, small for $19.95 per month and large for $29.95 per month and they deliver every Saturday. http://www.dobrasevicfoodcompany.com
