Exploits of a Vegan Wannabe

Last night I was doing some vegany research and I found the most outrageous thing you could add to your Wish List.  There is a company called Ecoist and they are using post-consumer waste to create one of a kind handbags, jewelry and home goods.  They have partnered with multinational brands such as The Coca-Cola Company, Disney, Frito-Lay, Mars, Cliff Bar, and Aveda to repurpose all their post-industrial waste. Instead of having their misprinted and obsolete packaging end up in landfills, they reuse them to make their handbags and other goods. According to their website, Ecoist has saved more than 40 million wrappers from landfills.

They are creating  beautiful and functional things out of waste and environmental baggage. Yes, that is a clutch made out of pull tabs…Extraordinary! In addition, Ecoist plants a tree for every handbag sold. In partnership with Trees for the Future, Ecoist has contributed to reforestation efforts around the world. So far they have planted over 100,000 trees in places like Haiti, India, and Uganda.

I have never ordered from this company…I literally just stumbled across it and wanted to share it because their stuff looks so cool!  Upcycling is such a beautiful thing.
