12/24 The Night Before A Compassionate Christmas
The Night Before A Compassionate Christmas
by S. Duquet and S. Boulton
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the farm
Not a creature was stirring, because they were safe from harm
The stockings were hung by the barn door with care,
In hopes that vegan St. Nick soon would be there;
The animals were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of veggies danced in their heads;
And Sandy in her flannel, and I in my fleece,
Had just settled down for some vegan mac & cheese,
When out in the pasture there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the table to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a bird,
Tore open the mini blinds to find what we heard.
When, what to my wondering eyes did I see,
But a hybrid sleigh, standing before me,
With a hip, friendly driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it was vegan St. Nick.
So up to the house-top in the hybrid he flew,
With the sleigh full of presents it was too good to be true.
He was dressed all in hemp, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot:
With an offering of love for the animals here,
That now lived in joy instead of constant fear.
He wore Crocs and was cool that jolly old elf,
And I realized he was compassionate, just like myself.
He came to this sanctuary to bring the animals cheer,
And to reassure them that they were safe here.
No slaughter, confinement or pain for them now,
Living out their lives in joy; we’d show them how.
We all joined the animals dancing with glee,
Because their new home is cruelty free.
Have a delicious Christmas Eve.

Thank you JL and Nydia, it was so exciting to write and to watch it come together. We sat at our favorite coffee shop and had decaf soy lattes (we are rockstar like that). It felt very holiday perfect.
