1/31 Happy Meatless Monday & Mainstream Veganista
Happy Meatless Monday. I thought it was so fitting to celebrate this Meatless Monday by sharing the exciting news that on February 1, the Oprah Winfrey Show will air “The Vegan Challenge” in which Oprah and 378 of her Harpo staffers will take on veganism. In a one-week challenge they will cut out all animal products—“no meat, no dairy, no animal anything.”
During the show, Oprah will speak with special guests Michael Pollan and Kathy Freston, and Lisa Ling will take the audience inside a beef processing plant.
This is absolutely monumental in furthering the mission of compassionate consumption through the mainstreaming of veganism. Lets be honest….if on February 1st Oprah told the world to consume as much Buffalo meat as we could get our hands on….people all over the world would be clamoring for Buffalo meat and consuming it en masse. Oprah is bringing veganism into the living rooms of millions of people….something we all strive to do one meal, one person, one Meatless Monday at a time. Bravo Oprah, and thank you. We appreciate the nod, even if only for a week. But beware Ms. Winfrey….you may just love it.
Have a delicious day.

I think so too Lisa. I think it is so exciting, amazing and a move in the right direction that the most recognized woman in the world will be talking about veganism for a week with the largest viewing audience that has ever been. Yeah for compassionate consumption!

IMO the greatest thing she did on that show was to score a tour of the slaughterhouse. That will probably have the biggest influence on her viewers in terms of how they eat and think about meat. It did for me! Here’s my story:

Davidson12,
I completely agree. I don’t care why people begin to flirt with veganism or decide to make a few more compassionate choices throughout the course of their week. The bottom line is that equates to less animal products being purchased and consumed and that is wonderful for all of us.
