6/18 The Little Herb That Could
I have a funny story. I have shared with you before that since becoming vegan, my tastes have changed quite dramatically. Things that I once despised are now staples in my diet like tomatoes, artichokes and kale. A few weeks ago I saw a garlic chive plant at the farmers market and thought, ” I could love you.” I have never liked onions and chives are right on top of the scrape those off my plate list. Apparently not anymore. I am treating myself like a crazed pregnant woman and allowing my new loves and cravings to unfold because they keep coming. It has been fun. So when I saw the plant at the market, we were not ready to plant, so I didn’t purchase it. I filed it away in the mental to buy list.
Last weekend Sandy showed me a volunteer (a plant that grows without ever having been planted there) garlic chive plant that had magically appeared between two cracks in our driveway! Weird right?!? So I decide I love something and it grows out of our cement. Veganism is much more powerful than I had even imagined.
Evidently it has been popping up for years but since I hated chves so much Sandy didn’t eat them either.
That night we had the creamiest, mini Yukon Golds on the grill with Garlic Chives from The Little Herb That Could. They were the best.
Have a delicious weekend and check your yard for manifested volunteer herbs. You never know.

Aw, it’s your “karma herb”! You wanted it and it came to you, literally to your door!
I’m with you, I cannot believe the things things I love now. Collard greens, kale, interesting grains. Oh, and when I started eating vegan I couldn’t stand nutritional yeast and suddenly I’m enjoying it (and Marmite, too). Crazy.
I’ve been scouring my yard for mint. There just has to be some out there!

My Karma herb, I love that. Can we market that? What in the world is Marmite? I thought you lived on kale? Mint is such a strong volunteer herb, I am confident you can find some. We also found volunteer wild strawberries, Chloe’s favorite.

Thank you JL, what a crazy website! I wonder how many people have tattoos that look like their art?

My karma herb is parsley… it’s always been a fave of mine too! Previously, parsley has always been purchased as a dry seasoning herb from the grocery store. This year I decided to start an indoor garden. In doing so, I had a pot just sitting there, ready for my celery once it was rooted & the next thing I know ~ little parsley sprouts popped up! The funny thing is, I didn’t buy parsley plants or seeds so a little birdie must’ve sent them to me whilst the pot was sitting in waiting =)
