6/8 Helen’s GardenSteaks-Love Them
As the story goes, Stephen grew up enjoying his moms legendary tofu steaks. Out of all the veg dishes in Helen’s repertoire, her tofu steaks were the most requested by friends and family. Stephen asked his mom if he could turn her specialty into a family business and she obliged, on one condition, ” if you promise that when the steaks are produced for market, they will still taste as delicious as they do fresh out of my kitchen.” I love that and I can picture Helen actually saying that while shaking a wooden spoon at Stephen. You can taste the love in the Helen’s Kitchen steaks and when you need a tofu steak and can’t invest the time or energy to press, season and bake your own…this is the way to go.
The steaks come four to a box and can be found in the freezer section of the natural foods aisle in most major grocery store chains. They are perfect for the grill, on a bun, with BBQ sauce, sauteed with shrooms and sauce over pasta. It is a life saver when you are drowning in a sea of time constraints and have to’s but still want to eat at home.
They are lower in sodium than most processed vegetarian foods and are cholesterol free. We added them to veggie kabobs on the grill and they were excellent. Best of all, fast and easy.
If you have enjoyed these, please share your ideas and recipes.
Kale Trail Update
The new shoes are amazing and I can really tell the difference. Their worth becomes evident when you realize that the pain in your feet or knees or back is now gone during the same run on the same terrain. A great example of you get what you pay for and we are all worth the right tools for the right activity. Training resumed on Monday and it felt really good. We ran two miles without a significant amount of effort. Yesterday we were only scheduled to run a mile with a warm up and cool down. Because of how the day worked out we ran in the hottest part of the day and it was 92 degrees…not joking. At first I thought my lungs had collapsed but they perked up (inflated) right quick and it was fine. Honestly…I kind of loved it. The heat and the sweat made me feel fully alive in a great way. Today, another two miles.
Have a delicious day.
