10/28 Veg Gifting-Book Giveaway
All the most edible holidays are fast approaching. I become giddy and food lustful just thinking about vegan sugar cookies and Tofurky Roast Beasts. In honor of foodie holidays and gift giving, I wanted to do a beautiful book giveaway. One lucky Exploits winner will receive a copy of Vegetarian, more than 100 fresh flavoursome recipes. One of the first dishes that caught my eye was Carrot Soup with Coriander Pesto. Yum. If you are already an amazing vegetarian/vegan chef, save it for a holiday gift for someone you love. If you just love cookbooks like I do…consider it an early gift from Exploits.
How do I win?
From today 10/28-10/31/11, let me know in the comments section what you enjoy most about cook books and what you like the least. On All Hallows Eve I will choose one winner at random and make the announcement on Tuesday Nov 1st. I look forward to reading your responses.
Kale Trail Update
After our second 13 miler last weekend, I have been temporarily sidelined for a bit of healing. I have taken it in stride (panicked and tried to concede defeat). This morning will be our first run all week and we are going to rock a 10 miler. Looking forward to a strong, pain free and successful run.
Have a delicious day.

Kirstin,
I think so too. I feel like edible genius is possible when I am looking at a pictue so dazzling I want to lick the page. I love the pictures, the instructions. Cookbooks make me feel like I can rock out any dish. All I have to do is purchase the ingredients and follow directions. I can do that. Thank you for your entry.

My brain feeds on cookbooks. I love to gaze at food photos and see how even simple dishes can be beautifully plated. I love reading about food combinations that I might not have thought of, or spy a spice I haven’t gotten around to yet. I can whip it up verbatim or create my own variation of the same recipe. Oh the possibilities are endless. My world would be a little sad without cookbooks!

I’m notorious for “adjusting” recipes as I go along, but really appreciate cookbooks that explain the “why” and “why not” of recipes so that I learn to understand that there is a reason to stay on course and follow instructions as written.

Gigi,
I totally agree. I love food photos. I would never ever buy a cookbook without photos.

Jennifer,
I do the same thing. I love to use cookbooks as a suggestion and then make the recipe my own by adding things I love. I also really enjoy seeing the amazingly creative things others are doing with food. It makes cooking more fun for all of us.

Hi Sherry,
The thing I love most about cookbooks is the inspiration they provide. I often adjust recipes to my own taste but am always mindful of retaining the spirit of the original recipe.
What I like least is cookbooks without photographs since I’m such a visual person who gains inspiration and motivation from luscious images.
Love the blog! keep up the good work

My favorite thing about cookbooks are the pictures! I also like how they give me ideas for different foods I’ve never thought of before.
What I dislike about cookbooks is that often times the recipe is for way more servings than I need, and is not easily adaptable to make it less. I know the obvious solution is saving/leftovers. But sometimes I really don’t want to eat the same meal for 8 days straight. Also a lot of times they call for ingredients that I’ll probably never use again.
