11/8 A Monster to Love
Imagine you are starving. You are at your place of business, at school or in an airport. Your options are limited…very limited to the row of vending machines by the restrooms. There is nothing in there you are willing to put yourself through, so you go without. You look up toward the heavens, angrily pumping your fists yelling, “Goodie Monster, why are you only in Portland, Oregon where all other cool things already are?”
Goodie Monster is a healthy snack filled vending phenomenon who resides in Portland. In lieu of Munchos and Mrs Fields Cookies, Goodie Monster is brimming with Lara Bars, Sahale nuts and Justin’s nut butters.
As if its even necessary, to make this cooler, 5% of his sales are donated to Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution whose mission is to inspire schools and communities across America to make healthier choices. Can you imagine what a positive impact Goodie Monster could make in our schools? Goodie has his own website where you can pretend to purchase the items by number. I may or may not have played with it for an inappropriate amount of time.
The inspiration behind the Goodie Monster came from two individuals who wanted tohave healthier vending machine snacking options in an office building where they work. One of them is an admitted snack fiend and couldn’t bring herself to purchasing the nutrition-void food out of the standard machines at their disposal. The Goodie Monster concept was born and lovingly transformed from a brown square vending box to a crazy cool green fuzzy healthy snack dispenser. What a great solution, to just go and purchase a machine and become a vendor in the building where you already go every day. I want a Goodie Monster in my town and I want you to have one too. Maybe I will start to look for used vending machines online. What should we name it?
Have a delicious day.

Hi, nice stumbling upon your post. I’m one of the creators of the Goodie Monster and I thought you’d like to know that my wife and I are 99%+ vegan, and so is the Goodie Monster. A few items contain very small amounts of dairy. But I’ve avoided talking about how vegan the Goodie Monster is and instead focus on how delicious the products are. We’ll see what happens…he was only born 10 days ago.
Thanks for your blog post…I really enjoyed it. And I hope one day the Goodie Monster has brothers and sisters across the country.

I love VeganNosh! Vend-a-vegan is so funny until I pop out and scare the heck out of some poor starving innocent person looking for a snack.

I love Little Vegan Outpost. It is very OK Corral in a vegan way.

Mark,
I LOVE Goodie Monster and hope that Goodies parents start producing siblings as quickly as they can. People want, need to snack so give them a healthier option. It is such a positive step towards helping all of us make compassionate choices. Thank you for making vegan options available, cool and easy. I hope to visit Goodie Monster very soon.
