12/13 The Gift of Good Taste
I love gifting and receiving edible gifts. I think the most loving thing you can do is to create something nourishing for someone you love. The second best thing…buy something that nourishes someone you love. I created this pumpkin butter lickety-split and am definitely going to use it for gifting. One batch makes four 8 oz jars. I wrote out a label on card stock and attached it with whimsical ribbon from the craft store for a classy, delicious and healthy gift.
Pumpkin Date Butter
By: S. Duquet
Ingredients
29 oz pure pumpkin (one large can)
30 pitted dates soaked in water for two hours and drained
3 Tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 tsp orange extract (or more to taste)
~Blend all ingredients in food processor until very smooth
~Spoon into decorative jars with lids and refrigerator until ready to gift
The dates transform the pumpkin into a creamy butter with caramel overtones. It is spicy and fragrant without being overly sweet. I really like that there are no added sugars and it is only sweetened with dates. Because this spread has not been canned or made into a preserve it is perishable. Please keep in the fridge. I can’t wait to share this with my friends and family. They are going to love it on toast, biscuits, muffins…
Do you give edible gifts? What are some of your favorites?
Have a delicious day.
