12/28 Going Green Part 1
I woke up today craving green food. The holidays have been a blur of dark chocolate, red wine and vegan delicacies. My insides have been screaming for kale but all my hands heard was vegan cupcake. The next four posts are going to be about healthy and delectable, green food. Enjoy.
The week before Christmas we were buying dates and walnuts at a local market when Sandy found fresh, green chick peas. She grabbed a few and brought them over to the woman that was helping me with my walnuts and dates and asked her how best to enjoy them. She told us to eat them raw right out of the shell; she had eaten them as a snack food throughout her childhood. We were stupified. They looked like miniature snap peas and tasted like pure bliss. They are as nutty as you would expect them to be but also taste green and sweet. They are crunchy but incredibly light like a rice cake.
Because we just saw them for the very first time, I am not sure if they are difficult to find or ordinarily everywhere and we just never looked. I read two articles that said they were available fresh at Whole Foods and frozen at Costco. Here is a link to a company in California that will ship them to your door, frozen. I have not purchased from them so if you have…please share your experience.
They also have an entire page of recipes on their site featuring their beloved green chickpea. Here is a link to the recipes.
Green garbanzos can be enjoyed raw or cooked, are high in all the things you want and low in the things you would care to avoid. They are action packed and so very green. Sounds good to me.
Have a delicious day.

I’ve seen them, wondered about them, but never tried them…thanks for the info. I have heard Trader Joe’s also has then frozen, and that they taste much better steamed than boiled. I looked for more recipe links if you’re interested…
