1/20 Wake Up Weekend
Category: Vegan Challenge
By the time you read this I will hopefully have already met vegan superhero and animal advocate Wayne Pacelle and have a signed copy of his book in hand.
We are in the KIA speeding toward Grand Rapids, Michigan for Wake Up Weekend. We will arrive just in time to see Wayne’s lecture about his new book, “The Bond.” Little does he know, I have my sights on meeting him this evening. A colleague of Sandy’s is the State Director for HSUS (Humane Society of the United States). She makes some of the most sinister vegan cupcakes I have ever tasted and had casually mentioned introducing us to Wayne this evening. What she did not realize was that to me, that would be like being introduced to The Dalai Lama or Luciano Pavarotti. I have a tendency to become star struck and shy (smiley in a slightly creepy way) around people that I really admire. I get nervous and verbally paralyzed until I bully myself into saying something to said admired person. When I had the opportunity to meet Rip Esselstyn, son of Forks Over Knives fame, Dr.Caldwell Esselstyn, I practically threw my body in front of him, creating a human speed bump to get his attention. I just wanted to tell him about the blog.
So, for this evening I chose my outfit very carefully in order to look confident but somewhat unaffected and approachable. “Thank you Wayne. Of course I would like to come and work with you at HSUS as a full time writer for animals rights and vegan awesomeness. Dont be ridiculous.” I took a half of a valium and washed it down with a grande soy latte. Its anyones guess how this will go.
Have a delicious day.

lol at “Human Speed Bump”
I’m guessing that HSBs get doors opened to them and dreams realized on a regular basis.
