10/7 Halloween Without the Mean
Happy Meatless Monday.
Over the weekend we put up our Halloween lights. Our house looks ready for the merriment of goblins and ghouls. It put me in the mood for spiced cider, Halloween Oreos (vegan junk food) and trick-or-treaters. Before you buy your candy to pass out I wanted to share with you how easy it is to celebrate Halloween without the mean.
Every year since we have been vegan we have given out vegan Halloween treats. It always makes me happy to hand out a treat that is cruelty-free. I now know that animals are hurt or killed so we can use their milk, eggs, gelatin (skin, tendons, bone) to make many things including candy. I don’t think handing out cruel candies is very festive.
I would rather pass out candies that are just fun without the exception. Candies that are made without animal products are easy to find and as inexpensive as any other at stores like Target, Meijer or Walgreens. I also found a cool site called www.NaturalCandyStore.com. They specialize in natural candies of all kinds, including vegan.
Here is a link to a list of vegan Halloween candies to make it easier to find once you go to stock up. One of my favorites not on the list (recent vegan make-over) are Skittles. They took out the gelatin and made them even better. You can find those anywhere and they are so very kid approved.
I also love individual packages of Oreos and pretzels for Halloween. How can you go wrong with either of those? Want to stay away from candy or snacks all together…hand out gel pens, stickers, small decks of cards, anything you can think of that would be fun to receive.
Having fun should be fun for everyone and everything involved. We can help that be true just by trying something new this year and buying vegan Halloween treats without animal products in them.
Have a delicious day.
