10/31 Mummies & Gourmet Pumpkin Seeds

Happy Halloween friends.

I simply love Halloween and the themed foods that go along with it.  I buy every pumpkiny thing I can get my hands on. I have had to make a deal with myself that I will only buy my beloved  pumpkin, soy, decaf lattes on Fridays. I wish every day was Friday.

When food can mimic the excitement of the day…that is some delicious fun, just like these vegan Halloween treats.  Here is a scary idea for this evening’s dinner; mummy dogs.  These are quick and easy enough to make before  the first trick-or-treater rings your bell. The original idea and photo is from a non-vegan site, which is why I thought it would be fun to share how easy it is to veganize them.

Crescent Mummy Dogs

A veg  dog swaddled in a  flaky bread wrap sounds like dinner fit for both Frankenstein and his bride. Mummy wrapped dogs make me feel lighthearted and child like. They are fun and easy to eat.

Vegan hot dogs are readily available and the wrap can be refrigerated pie crust or crescent rolls such as Pillsbury. Just check out the ingredient list for the ones in your grocery store and buy the one without dairy, whey or casein.  Easy peasy.  Here are a few suggestions for easy to find vegan hot dogs.

Tofurky Hot Dogs

Even mummies like treats, so how about some gourmet pumpkin seeds?  Before you throw away the innards of your jack-o-lanterns, save their seeds and roast them for some late night, scary movie snacking. I found four delicious  recipes to spice up your seeds. In place of butter use Earth Balance vegan butter or any oil you enjoy such as coconut, avocado or sesame seed.

Ginger Orange Zest

Spicy Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

 Hilda’s Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Cinnamon Sugar Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Do you have a favorite pumpkin seed recipe? Please share. Pumpkin season is still in full swing.

Have a delicious Halloween.
