12/3 An Oreo Update and A Joyful Vegan Winner
A few weeks ago a comment came in about the Oreo Cookie pie crust I used to create the Play In The Mudd Pie. One of Exploits readers was cool enough to write in to tell me that when she had looked up the ingredient list of the crust on the Nabisco website, the list included Whey, which is not vegan. I found this very perplexing because I still had the ingredient list right from the pie crust and it was different than the list online. Strange. So, like any concerned, vegan, Oreo eating citizen I emailed Nabisco to help me understand and this was their reply.
Hi Sherry,
Thank you for visiting http://www.nabiscoworld.com.
We make changes to our product formulas on a regular basis. Ingredient lists can become outdated very quickly, so, we don’t maintain them.
We do have an online tool that lists the label information on some of our products. Just visit www.kraftfoods.com and then click on the product information tab.
Please remember that the best source of information for you is the ingredient statement on the product that you have purchased.
If you haven’t done so already, please add our site to your favorites and visit us again soon!

Albeit vague, I think she is saying that the most up to date information will be the ingredient list on your package, because the other lists are not maintained regularly. Although I find it difficult to believe that a multi billion dollar company does not staff someone to maintain the ingredient lists on their website…..it feels reasonable to believe that the most current info would always be on the package you are purchasing. As always, it is up to us to be our own consumer watch dogs…make the best choices for ourselves and our families and learn new things along the way.
We have another winner!
On the third day of Vegan Joy, Exploits gave to me a compelling book and a DVD. Congratulations Nik, you are the Day Three winner of the Twelve Days of Vegan Joy Giveaway. You have scored a captivating book called Bird Flu, A Virus of our Own Hatching that is a brilliantly researched and written story about this pandemic flu and the craziest nutritional DVD, Latest in Clinical Nutrition, that is loaded with updates on food trends and myths. Congrats Nik and thank you for your comments.
I would like to thank our friends at the Humane Society of the United States for all they do for animal advocacy and for the cool swag.
Have a delicious day!

It would never occur to me that the ingredients on the website or packaging would be incorrect. I agree, that from what the rep told you, that the most accurate would be the label ingredients.
